I'm building a more 'modern' flash cart for the GB. The question is, would you prefer it USB like a Drag'n'Derp? or SD card based like an Everdrive?
SRAM will be 128k to satisfy the LSDJ folk, what is the maximum ROM size you would like it to support?
4Mbytes is the most cost effictive, this would cover 99% of GB/GBC games.
The cart price is targeted at $50 but hopefully strong support will bring the price down.
Let me know your thoughts!
I would prefer SD…but I’ll go with whatever you decide.
Can we sign-up to be notified when it’s available?
Thanks,
Stephen
Thought about this out of the blue for no reason. How hard in terms of production and implementation would a AAA or even AA battery compartment be? I could have sworn my cousin owned some game that used a tube battery slot. Can’t remember what it could have been but I think it was actually pretty long. It’s just that if a tube battery could be used and it have a cap on the outside, battery issues would be a thing of the past for the RTC.
All one would need is to pop open the cap, replace the battery with any standard tube battery that they can find almost anywhere, turn the flash cart on and reset the RTC.
And with Roms, no worrying about the memory being erased. Just probably a reset for gold silver and crystal. And the $50 price tag is probably a fair price. I’d pay that much. I’d never have to own another cartridge again. And I can fill it with all kinds of Pokemon hacks and not even need to trade.
So yeah. A tube battery compartment would be great, and no one would need to open up their flash cart. But this is only if it’s feasible.
Not sure if this is still in the works. But I’ve been searching around and only have had a couple promising searches but nothing too great. This would be perfect for almost every single person who would want a flash cart. I’m wanting to put PokeCrystal with some updates and changes made by myself to an actual cartridge and a RTC is a must. I’ve seen a Flash Cart without a USB/SD that would need a separate cart flasher device. That’s coming up $80. I’m assembling PokeCrystal to see if a 2MB cartridge even works size wise. So I’m hoping that this is still happening and I would definitely get it.
USB or SD is fine by me, but it would be great if it was a RAM cart rather than one that slowly flashes each time like the Everdrive. But most important, proper 3.3V <→ 5V level translators! The old EMS cart didn’t have these, yuck!
I just missed the latest replenishment of the El Cheapo SD Flash Cart V1.9…. :‘(
So YEEEEEAAAHHH i’m definitely waiting for it !!
USB or SD No matter what you want to build !! ;) In any case, it will be great ;)
